An independent, objective analysis on your IUL policy

Someone should check that illustration who isn’t being paid to sell it.

Upload the indexed universal life illustration you were given. We rebuild it from its own numbers, test it against markets it wasn’t shown in, and tell you what it does and does not guarantee.

The first check costs nothing, and you see what we found before anything is asked of you.

Hiding the personal details first

Your name, address, policy number and your agent’s details change nothing in the analysis. Remove them and we never see them.

Preview, on a Mac

  1. 1.Open the PDF and choose Tools → Redact.
  2. 2.Drag across each thing you want gone.
  3. 3.Choose File → Save. The text under the bars is removed at that point, not before.

Adobe Acrobat

  1. 1.All tools → Redact a PDF → Select text & images.
  2. 2.Drag across each thing you want gone.
  3. 3.Click Apply, then save. Nothing is removed until you click Apply.

Use the Redact tool, not a drawn rectangle. A filled shape drawn over text leaves the words underneath it, where they can still be selected and copied. It looks hidden and is not.

Two to keep: your date of birth or issue age, and your risk class. Without them the analysis is built on the wrong insured — if you would rather remove those too, type just those two in on the next screen.

first, or type the figures in yourself.
WHAT YOU WERE SHOWNWHAT WE TEST IT AGAINSTWHAT YOU GET BACKKEPT GOINGRAN OUTAGAINST INVESTING IT
An illustration draws one line, at one assumed rate, for fifty years. We run your policy through every market history we have and report what comes out: which markets it keeps going in and which it runs out of money in, when it is first worth more than you have paid into it, and how it compares with investing the same premiums yourself.

Why you can trust this

Nobody here makes money if you keep the policy.

We are not in the insurance business

We hold no insurance license to sell, take no commission, accept nothing from any carrier, and have no relationship with the person who gave you this illustration. There is no policy at the end of this that we would rather you bought. Our only interest is that the analysis is right, because that is the entire product.

Your policy is put under stress

An illustration shows one rate, held steady for fifty years. We run yours through dozens of market conditions instead — strong decades, flat ones, a crash in the year it would hurt most — and then again with every lever the carrier is allowed to move set to its contractual worst. You are told how often the policy still stands, not how it looks on its best day.

Your document does not stay here

We read your PDF once, take the figures the analysis needs, and delete the file. What we keep is a table of numbers — premiums, charges, ages, values. Not the document, not your address, not your policy number. We never sell or share any of it, and you can delete your analysis whenever you want.

What you get

The questions an illustration is not built to answer.

We rebuild your illustration from its own figures

Every charge, the crediting terms, the cost of insurance. Then we run the policy forward ourselves and check that our numbers land on the ones printed in your document. You see how close we got, to the decimal — if we cannot reproduce it, we say so instead of carrying on.

The cost of insurance, priced the way the carrier prices it

Illustrations print a charge. We work out the underlying rate per $1,000 of coverage and show it by age — which is the only figure that can be set beside a term quote, and the only way to see that a policy doing well starts paying more for its insurance, not less.

Dozens of market conditions, not one flattering line

An illustration shows one assumed rate forever. We run strong markets, weak ones, flat decades and crashes at the worst possible moment, and report how often the policy still stands.

What happens if the carrier only honors the guarantees

Most of an illustration is not guaranteed. We move every lever the carrier is allowed to move — the cap, the cost of insurance, the fees — to its contractual worst and show you what is left.

Next to investing the same money yourself

The same premiums, on your own tax assumptions, in a Roth or a taxable brokerage account. After tax, after charges, and honest about what each side gives up.

A spreadsheet you can argue with

Download the whole model as Excel formulas, not as a picture of our answer. Change one year's rate, or the cost of insurance, and watch every figure move. If you disagree with an assumption, you can prove it.

How it works

Three steps, and you stop whenever.

  1. 1

    Upload the illustration

The PDF your agent gave you. Black out your name and policy number first if you like — they change nothing.

  2. 2

    Check what we read

We show every figure we pulled out, beside how closely our rebuild matches your document's own columns. You correct anything we misread.

  3. 3

    See what we found, free

A graded list of what is and is not a problem with this policy — before you decide whether the full written analysis is worth it.

You will not lose your place

Signing in takes a six-digit code by email — no password to invent. Once you have, everything you have started is waiting on your dashboard: an illustration still being read, a comparison you set up last week, an analysis you have already paid for. Close the tab whenever you like and come back to the same place.

Find out what your policy is actually doing.

Upload the illustration and we will read it, check it against itself, and show you what we found. That part is free — you decide afterwards whether you want the full written analysis.

An analysis of one document. Not investment, tax or insurance advice.
